The Forbes Cup belonged to Voracious

Sometimes a Country Cup delivers exactly what everyone hopes for. A genuine contest.

Sometimes the best stories are the ones you take home

The Bankstown Sports Forbes Cup certainly did.

As the field straightened, several runners still had genuine winning hopes. For a few thrilling strides it looked as though Finn’s selection, Flying From Above, might just pull off something special.

The brave gelding fought all the way to the line, only to be denied in the final few metres by the determined Voracious, giving everyone on course a finish worthy of one of country racing’s great Cups.

Flying From Above lost no admirers in defeat. His courageous second placing was enough to secure a place in the Big Dance ballot, keeping an even bigger dream very much alive.

Behind them, Walking Painting again showed why he had attracted so much support, while Acheson fought on honestly to complete a quality first four.

🥇 Congratulations to the Winning Connections

Congratulations to trainer Mack Griffith, jockey Jacob Van Overmeire, and the large group of owners and racing friends who share in Voracious.

Country racing has always been about people coming together, and few winners reflect that spirit more than a horse raced by such a broad ownership group. Every early morning, every trial, every trip to the races and every hopeful conversation finally led to this wonderful Forbes Cup victory.

To every owner, family member, stable employee and supporter… enjoy every moment.

These are the memories that last forever.

The Finish That Had Everyone Watching

There are moments when photographs say more than words ever could.

The final 200 metres…

The desperate drive to the line…

The celebration…

And the sportsmanship shown by every stable afterwards.

This is what Country Cups are all about.

Tommy’s Notebook

“One horse carried home the Cup…

but every horse carried someone’s dream.

That’s why Country Cups matter.

And that’s why we’ll always come back next year.”

Next Stop… Coffs Harbour this Friday

The old LandCruiser has already been pointed north.

Tommy has folded away his notebook.

Kenny has another page of whispers to chase.

Finn has a horse to keep following all the way to the Big Dance.

And somewhere up the coast, Coffs Harbour is getting ready for its biggest day of the year.

We’ll see you there
